The versatile violinist Sophia Stiehler currently serves as concertmaster of the widely acclaimed chamber orchestra Ensemble Reflektor and is a sought-after chamber music partner.

As an orchestral musician, she regularly performs with renowned ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Orchestra of the 18th Century, the Utopia Orchestra, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. These collaborations have brought her under the baton of distinguished conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Pablo Heras-Casado, Teodor Currentzis, Mariss Jansons, and René Jacobs.

As the first violinist of the Malion Quartet, she has received multiple awards, including first prize at the Polytechnischer Wettbewerb (2018). In 2021, she was honored with a special prize for her interpretation of Bach’s Chaconne on the Baroque violin at the Gasteig Competition in Munich.

A central focus of her artistic work lies in chamber music and in the historically informed performance practice of the Romantic era. Within this field, she performs in various ensembles using period instruments. She plays, among others, a Baroque violin made by Jacob Stainer in 1669, generously loaned to her by the Florian Leonhard Foundation.

Sophia Stiehler received her first violin lessons from her grandfather Urs Stiehler. She became an early member of the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra, where she later served as concertmaster. She studied modern violin with Sophia Jafféand Baroque violin with Petra Müllejans, Mary Utiger, and currently with Mayumi Hirasaki.
